For those unaware, back in the 1970's, Dublin, GA boasted one of the greatest raft races ever! The Great Oconee River Raft Race (GORRR)! Thousands of people from all around came to witness & paddle with whatever water worthy vessels they had or created. What started as a small water board event quickly grew to become the 2nd largest raft race in GA. It became so big that many area businesses sponsored rafts, & several state senators, & even a congressman joined in on the fun. Many t-shirts & other souvenir items were sold. It also had the support of local newspapers & television stations which covered the event. It became such a big event that it spurred GA Legislation which was passed for the river's protection & also led to further development of Blackshear Ferry Landing. It was even incorporated into the Redneck Games, until the Games were cancelled a few years back. For more information on this event, please go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLNXCGQiydA
